Departure

I danced between the moonbeams and their silver satined light

Cast troubled thoughts aside while giving wings to mind for flight

Grabbing at the nearest stars to gain the heaven’s heights

Avoiding looking back towards chaotic earthly sights.

Each point of light, a hopeful thought, a speck which might provide

Some answers to the questions which the cosmos tries to hide

Beyond the timeless darkness where man’s physics are applied

To reach an understanding of the ways our souls are tried.

The beauty of mind’s journey, as I pass the Milky Way,

My mortal thoughts now shed in piles about my feet of clay

Mind streaking supersonic into night without a day

A pleading wish for time to stop, allowing me to stay.

My soul seems slowed and heavy, pulled by Lunar tidal force

Dragged back upon our sorrowed sphere, resuming normal course

Attempting to behave the way our social norms endorse

My memory of moonbeam’s dance, a bit of sad remorse.

I sometimes wonder if the stars take time to think of me

While I gaze into their millions, yet just pick out one to see

Perhaps a star to wish upon, a prayer on bended knee

Its light my hope of peace on Earth for all humanity.
