Mourning Freedom Chapter 3: Bargaining

Society isn't ready to deal with a strike from informed individuals. Outrage prevents the masses from learning useful tools and information.

Jack breaks down his thoughts on the matter in this analysis of the situation.

The quiet majority wakes
They must, for the loud majority appears more and more like those they've titled evil.

One woman's words are enough to force a community to punish even those innocent and not involved. A group generalized and treated as less for the behavior of one. The familiarity of this is astonishing.

One man's actions forced all men to cower. Wondering whether that boring date makes them a sexual abuser. The proof lies in the…

Notebooks

Jack reflects on his old relationship with notebooks versus his new one with the laptop.

___________________________________________________________

There’s a safe comfort which comes from writing in notebooks. The keyboard feels cold and uninspired. A lot of effort goes into coming up with fresh ideas. But here in the notebooks it’s liberated and easy. Even emotional displays come as second nature when hand written. The skills acquired for expression as a child were developed in notebooks from the start. it’s home.

Losing sight of the simpler things in life that matter the most happens to all. Forgetting that joy and satisfaction come from the things loved occurs often.

I’m guilty of forgetting where I come from. That writing is what ultimately matters. That there is no right or wrong way to do it so long as it gets done.

I have to remember, when I struggle, that the notebooks always welcome me.

Learn to Create

A thought on creativity.

———————————————————————————————

Neither Skill nor Talent contain the capacity of Wisdom afforded with time and effort.
Understanding breeds method and method affords freedom.
Freedom then fuels creativity.

Do to learn.
Learn to understand.
Understand to improve.
Improve to perfect.

The Dying Art of "Discussion"

How can it be possible for a person to be so willing to argue their perspective and impose their reasoning on others but be completely unreceptive to Feedback and counter information?

If you’ve never gathered information because you listen to no one while waiting your turn to speak, what are you speaking? There has been no information collected. At that point we can assume your perspective isn’t yours but something you read from a book, magazine or the internet.

Which part of an opinion you read and repeated is yours? Which part did you originate? Or do you sit around repeating other people’s views on things?

What original input do you have? And if none, why not listen to someone else’s to add to your informational bank?

You don’t have to believe the thing to understand why someone else does.

Isn’t knowing why the villain believes they are the hero the only way to defeat the villain? Know your enemy and know thyself, but there is no self and the villain is ignored so no information processing takes place ever… There is just repeating and reciting. Is that a good basis for an argument?

I don’t know, I rely on reason. I find it strange someone would argue something they’ve given no thought to. It’s strange. And why their emotions on it are more of a solid fact from their eyes than the objective logic behind it is weird and probably wrong.

I live in a strange world.

Making

Creation, my relationship with it is bittersweet. I’m obsessed and can’t stop, but then I have no time to do anything else. And I’m only really enjoying myself when I can’t figure something out. Otherwise it’s routine and mundane.

Freedom is the feeling I get. Using the tools I’ve learned in life and applying them to the creative process. The aesthetics and the practical are all just as important, and attempting to align them is a learning experience on its own.

I make because I learn from making. I learn to make new things. The prophecy will continue to fulfill itself. My obsession will continue to grow. I will get overwhelmed and that’s when the fun will begin.

Block the Block

I tend to forget writer’s block is a thing unless I’m actively thinking about it. My solution is to write about the writer’s block itself which has altered my perception of it. It’s not thought of as a lack of writing, but rather, another subject worth writing about.

In fact, it’s a challenge to write new content when the topic is writer’s block. To exploit as much of it as possible for my benefit. Let the “negative” be twisted and turned on its head to become a positive experience.

Defeat is a state of mind achieved by only those who have quit. Lessons are a state of mind achieved by those who don’t give up. I choose to learn.

Don't Be Outraged

We have to approach situations and information with an open mind. Fitting the “Recreational Outrage” mold is not the way to go. If we’re more worried about telling someone why we believe they’re wrong than whether or not we understand why they believe what they believe we end up being the ignorant party unwilling to learn from the opposition. It’s wiser to understand why we don’t agree rather than just not agree and never know why. Waiting for our turn to talk causes us to miss our turn to listen. If knowledge is power let others inform you and stop informing them. Ask questions instead of offering statements. Grow your knowledge. It’s pointless to attempt to grow someone else’s if you can’t be sure that they’re willing to let you. Grow yours and you’ll be sure at least that got done.

Within the Universe

The nature of reality must be more complex than possible for us to even imagine. We exist within the universe, as far as we understand it, which means we are made of whatever the internal universe is made of. We have no means of accessing, perceiving or even understanding the origins of the outer universe.

Like a character in a story, it is not possible to question what exists beyond the page without the question itself being posed within the universe using the rules of the universe.

Knowledge of the outside must be discovered with tools from the outside. We have no means or reaching these tools.

A Writer's Distant Support

The people closest to you will support you the least. It’s worse if you’re a writer because chances are you are one of the only people you know that enjoys reading. At best, those around you will purchase your writing just to say they did, but don’t press them on how far they’ve gotten because “haven’t had a chance to start” is quite possibly the answer. Their lack of interest is the reality.

It’s most frustrating part is that writers puts themselves into their work which results in the work being the best way to understand the writer. The best way to understand how you think and what you find interesting.

No one cares as much as you do, because you’re the only that cares.

Wandering Mind

The clock tocks twelve twice in the studio with my mind dead set on writing. The desire is to abandon responsibilities, but they must get completed before I proceed. The methods I use to work with the audio reflect how I long for writing. It’s an obsession I fulfill daily, yet always want more. The behavior of a junkie.

In my personal life this addiction presents itself as insomnia. My brain wanders off when it’s been given a break and begins to work on the stories. Character development, settings, even scenes develop throughout the course of my downtime, against my will. So I get up and write to calm the thoughts down. Repeat the next day.

If only I could distract myself from the write addiction of figuring out the right way. I’m plagued with the want for the learning experience writing is.

Not Thinking

... Solutions lie behind reason. Be less worried about someone understanding your point of view and attempt to understand theirs. Just listen and process. No commenting, no insulting. Don’t say anything. Listen to their explanation. When they’re done, ask a question without inserting new information. Just make it based on what they’ve said. That’s all the reason you need. If it makes sense take it and run, if it doesn’t and they don’t want to hear your reason, well at least you understand you don’t agree with theirs.

But if everyone is busy yelling at each other because emotions who is listening to who? Which side is getting smarter and more informed? Be the bigger person....
