Venomous Repentance

To anyone who has ever been sexually abused... you are not alone. You are not your wounds and I pray that you heal as best that you can.

I invited you to come take a seat with me on this branch and for some reason you felt the need to push me. You shoved me and I know you believe that by doing so you released whatever demons that lay inside of you. Perhaps you thought that the words that came out of your mouth would somehow dissolve your actions into the night air. You may be family but we do not come from the same tree and when you pushed me my whole perspective turned upside down. I lost sight of the stars. Suddenly it was just you and I under a canopy of leaves, leaving me in the dark of the unknown. All I had was your word telling me all you did was brush up against me. All I had was your word that your hand only grazed my waistline. Your word means nothing to me when it’s full of venom and now your shape takes on the form of a snake. Was that a push or was it a bite? Either way I’m paralyzed with the idea that somehow I might remember what you’ve done and all these years of bliss will unravel. I remember before you even told me, that I had a nightmare about you. That you had lunged at me in a way that embodied my spirit. The kind of evil that struck me so hard I came back to reality gasping for air and clutching my best friend beside me. The only similarity between your unwarranted confession and my dream, is that you’ve confirmed what my subconscious already knew. I may not remember what you’ve done but I’ll never forget what it feels like to peer into a soul that can not be saved. So when the feeling of being whole again comes back to me, as I know that it will, the canopy above us will open and the moon will watch you. The moon and I will see your attempt to shed your skin, only to realize that your actions define you. You can’t shed guilt while poisoning others and expect to be transformed. The moon will then tell the wolf and when you hear the howls, just know that he has heard of your deceit. He will hunt for you. All your desperate attempts will make a trail, making you easy to find because you’ve learned nothing after all this time.
