Standing Strong

“Standing Strong” is a poem that depicts the history of an old family homestead.

Hard labor

comfort and love

wrapped inside every inch of this family heirloom home.

Creaky, original hardwood floors,

a staircase detailed with architectural designs,

pencil marks on the kitchen wall

capturing children's height,

bittersweet memories replay in one’s heart.

Old wooden boards

with a fresh coat of white,

adorn the outside

of this peaceful paradise

nestled in nature’s secluded hideaway.

Standing strong for two centuries,

five generations passed,

a wedding gift twenty-four hundred months ago,

no amount of money could ever replace

the heartfelt history

hiding deep within these walls.
