Whither Paradise?
/A desert oasis?
Sparkling blue pool
Flecked with sunlight
Brushed with light breeze
Lush green palm trees swaying
Gentle forest glade?
Petal’d wildflowers
Arching azure sky
Drifting cotton clouds
First hints of Autumn’s colors and crispness
Bounding ocean main?
Spread white canvas wings
Dolphins trailing our wake
Uncharted islands on the horizon
Where we anchor inside the reef
Whither Paradise?
A place we go when we die?
A promise of no more pain
No sorrow
No want, all needs met
All desires fulfilled
Or is Paradise
The absence of our basest evils?
No hate, no fear, no oppression
No disease, no poverty, no war
Existing rather in peace and love
And if this be Paradise
What prevents us
From having it today?
Rejecting all antithetical to it
Embracing love and empathy
Equality, and justice
Wherein we are all free
Empowered to realize our full potential
Thus realizing Paradise
