Watching and Waiting
/Our son's school science project involved the entire family. Our watching and waiting ended in joy.
————
For the next three days, it was my job to watch.
Our family had been waiting for weeks.
When would these chickens finally hatch?
We were anxiously awaiting the sight of beaks.
I was holding one egg, and I felt the chick scratch.
To get my family’s attention, should let out shrieks?
It was dinnertime and I saw the door handle unlatch.
“Mom, I heard a sound and I want to peak.”
“Bob, leave the eggs alone so the chicks can detach.”
“Right now, they are fighting to get out, but they’re weak.”
After twenty minutes, the arrival process was unmatched.
Five young roosters arrived all wet and sleek.
