Too

I recently attended the 2026 annual convention of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. This poem was in part inspired by the convention’s motto: “Advocacy! Activism! Community!”; as well as my personal goals for my poetry and songwriting: to inspire Connection, Community and Commitment.

We cannot be

Too compassionate

Too equal 

Too charitable

Too free

Connect with our fellows

Build community

Practice commitment to one another

Striving towards that time

We shall stand 

Hand-in-hand

In dignity and humanity

Too-gether
