To Sit In Judgement

I sit in darkened room

Dim memories playing upon my mind

Actions taken and avoided

Words said and unsaid

Pain inflicted, sorrows borne

Loves unfulfilled and discarded

Is it nostalgia

That spools out these empty reels of remembrance?

Yearning?

Desire?

Or is it Judgement?

That reckoning of wins and losses?

Guilt and innocence

Rights and wrongs

Truth and lies?

And, if Judgement

Is it that of my own rendering?

Or of Fate?

Man?

God?

Whatever the Verdict

And the Court which passes it

The Sentence is the same:

Darkness that fades to black

The end of all that began

Does this consistency of Sentence

Render Judgement irrelevant?

Or must one assess

Evaluate

Accept responsibility

Atone?

These things I ponder

In darkened room

Where there shall come Judgement

Sentence

Execution

With no Appeal

But with

One prays

Justice

And Mercy
