The Stranger

It's a 2,000 plus question, would we know Jesus if He came to earth now? Well, I wonder too.

————

Last night I saw a stranger on my street.

It was cold and he had no winter clothes.

The rain was pouring down upon him

As the temperature was dipping low.

I had no way to know his intention,

So, I was afraid to reach out to him.

But deep in my heart I realized

That to walk away would be a sin.

This could be someone’s lost father.

Or a grieving mother’s last son.

Quite clearly I felt God say to me,

"Christians show grace to everyone."

Then, I knew what obedience required of me

There was just one choice if I was a Christian.

For Jesus said that which we give to a stranger

At that moment we offer to Him.

What would I do if this was Jesus?

Would I recognize him as the Lord?

Or, would I stand still paralyzed by fear

As my obligation to God became blurred?

That was a question I could not answer,

So, I chose to give this stranger grace.

And in the naked gratitude he gave back

I could see my Savior’s smiling face.

This good deed cost me nothing.

And I gave much less than I got.

For, maybe this stranger wasn’t Jesus,

But he was still a beloved son of God!
