Setting Sail

I gave my mind a holiday, a pass from cares and woes

Set it in a tiny skiff to sail where ‘ere wind blows

Waved as it departed from my pier of anxious thought

And hoped it would survive to prove my efforts weren’t for naught.

I watched it growing smaller as it reached horizon’s line

Then as it slipped beyond my sight, a wish it would be fine

Gazing at my harbor where life’s problems had been stored

My mindless form now finding them quite easily ignored.

I walked amongst the barrels filled with chores I’d yet to do

Past towering bales of paperwork filled with notices past due

Yet now I had a secret smile, no thoughts could emanate

My mind was somewhere far away, I just could not relate.

Carefree under puffed cloud sky, I walked my harbor’s hills

An inner warmth preventing me from feeling wind’s sharp chills

Spinning ‘round in fading light of Sun’s farewell to day

I felt that I just might have found a way for soul to play.

My eyes gaze into twilight as they search for skiff’s small mast

Yet nothing viewed against the sky as Night’s bright stars are cast

Perhaps my mind has found a better place in which to be

I hope that I won’t rue the day, I pushed it out to sea.
