Rumination

When our past, our present, and our future meet in the realm of our imagination, we have perfect insight into what we should have done differently. And in our 20/20 hindsight we see every past misstep that led to our present ruminations. In which we waste precious time focused on the what ifs and if onlys that we are now sure would have led us to perfect peace .... But what if we focused, even ruminated, on believing God orders our steps that lead us to exactly where we need to be at the perfect time? And that surrendering to His lead frees us from ruminating on the past, giving us the freedom to rejoice in the love of our Savior in the present.

Oh, to live life over again; to consciously live it

differently. If only we could choose a different path, we would walk toward a better eternity.

But that's no more than a pipe dream, a mere lust for impossible power. Like the Babylonians trying to be like God in their unholy pursuit of the tower.

God created the contours of time to use however He sees fit. He can change time to achieve His goals, because He alone controls it.

We are achingly aware that we cannot change the past. Still, we ruminate on the game of "if only." If we'd only done this, or hadn't done that, maybe now we wouldn't be so lonely.

But then, if only we could leave the past to God, if only we could rest in His love. If only we could be grateful each day for the cross, and the grace of His blood. Maybe we could stop wasting time lamenting the past, and ruminating on if only we could. By simply believing our God of compassion and grace works it all for His glory and our good.
