My Two Sisters

The love and conflicts and new beginnings that happens in relationships between sisters is worth writing about.

————

In January I speak on Zoom with my two sisters.

I hope to lead into meaningful conversation about our joint plans,

With suggestions. Ideas. Trying-to-be-organised. Co-operate. Be as kind as I can.

Yet I’m feeling irritated and scratchy.

One of them asked me if I’m happy. Does she ask me that? Really?

It’s a tad condescending and assumes I may not have been happy.

So I tell her I’m very happy here, up north.

The surroundings.

The people who come and go.

The community who reside here and share the work

In our domain. Over 200 acres it is.

Wild gritty pure awesome and always beautiful.

This is what I believe. This is why I’m happy, I tell her, my controlling fruity sister.

She doesn’t need to ask me if I’m happy.

I shouldn’t take offence, yet I don’t really think she cares.

She just feels guilty that she wasn’t able to accept and keep me

At the time when I was so willing to collaborate

In a new interesting project with her.

She wouldn’t accept shared leadership (as they call it)

So it became a case of ‘her way or the highway.’

I can see that now. I can leave it behind me.

Lessons learned. New beginnings.

My other sister is more sincere

I do believe she truly misses me,

Although she was not always kind

When I lived nearby and was helpful.

But now she’s kind of solid and steady

(Not flighty like the other one)

And wants to have good relations with me, with most people.

I think she’s old and weary,

Probably more compassionate now

As she doesn’t have many choices.

Yet I love my sisters, however they be.

I feel I know them very well. It’s family.

We are part of a collective. All are great souls.

All are willing to let go of something not necessary

When we realise its impact.

My sisters mirror me, and I them.

We’re all quite good at change, but not always welcoming it open-hearted.
