My Little Green Truck

Children's Environmental Poem for Environmental Day from upcoming book Where Do Balloons Land? by Taylor and Seale Publishing

————

I took my green truck everywhere,

with many a scrape and a crack.

I put grass and dirt and piles of rocks

upon its sturdy back.

But then I drove my trusty truck

through golden-green wet lands,

and after that, my little green truck

rusted in my hands.

Wetlands exist for myriad birds,

the otter, bobcat, and mice.

Little fish hide in the rushes

from their bullies late at night.

What does not belong in a wetland?

Trash, chemicals, trucks and roads.

Help the minks, muskrats and beaver

keep their natural abodes.
