Maelstrom

Digging out from Hurricane Sally - and COVID, and raging wildfires, and all 2020 is giving us...

————

Come the winds at a howl

Sweeping aside age-old trees

And new-found lives

Snapped as matchsticks

Broken yet unlit

Not cleansing the world

Rather leaving her bruised, battered

Detritus on the streets

Boats flung high above the tide line

So that we left standing on a shore

Shell-shocked from the destruction

Vision unfocused on far horizon

Wondering what next maelstrom

Will consume us
