Introspection

The term “unbridled passion” stirs a memory deep in mind

Of youthful thoughts and actions and ambitions which were blind

The charging into every day as if it were the last

No concept of how every hour would soon make up my past.

I knew that somewhere long ago there must have been a time

When mountains’ height could not deter my hearts’ desire to climb.

No goal that couldn’t be attained, no being I could not be

No destiny denied to mind and Time an endless sea.

But now I find I am amused at where I have arrived

Gone is youthful energy yet I’m pleased that I survived.

It’s not what I had thought I’d be when starting out as young

My life just not the subject of great songs that could be sung.

But I’m content to be the man I see within my mirror

Despite the things I never did, I see myself much clearer.
