Glad You Called

Sometimes we have conversations that leave us puzzled and uneasy.

To say hello. It’s been a while.

A year, you say. How are 

the kids? I know you’re only

filling time. Polite. What

do you really want?

I don’t see them much.

They have their lives.

And you? What’s going on?

The silence thick. The seconds

tick. Did I say something wrong?

Just want to hear your voice,

you say. Just want to know

that you’re ok. Then silence.

You hang up.
