Conscience

Never sleeps

Permanently on high alert

Constant reflections

Disturb, disconcert

Perturbed, angered

By matters absurd

Sensitive to nuances in speech,

Sarcasm, unkind words

Appalled by tales of injustice

Grieves at images of inhumanity

Whirlwind of her myriad thoughts

Lead me close to insanity

Weary of her ruminations

Affecting my equanimity

Yet without my conscience

Who would I be?
