California Desert Heart

I found a woman’s heart in a California desert

there was no doubt it belonged to a female  

un-phased by the blazing sand, I knew  

no pulse could beat so effortlessly  

in the rays of an incessant sun

like that of a woman

And dancing was she by herself

in her own content  

in the palm of a barren sea, her heart

drew in onlookers like that of a Joshua tree

but never did she leave with anyone  

There is no doubt the female heart is as hungry

as a stirred rattlesnake but will not strike

unless provoked.
