A Whole Woman

This poem is about not reducing people to simple, easy to understand, stagnate characteristics. Human beings are dynamic. Our character is a tapestry made of every experience we've had up to this very moment.

————

“I thought you said you were strong.”

“I am, and…”

“I thought you said you were confident”.

“I am and…”

“I thought you said you need solitude.”

“I do, and…”

“I thought you said you were self-reliant.”

“I am, I am and”

Sometimes I’m needy.

Sometimes I need care.

Sometimes I am lonely.

Sometimes I am scared.

The whole of me has much more depth

Then do any of my parts.

I am a collage of overlapping hues.

No clear endings, no clear starts.

I ask for your acceptance;

With understanding or without.

Unconditional commitment

Through uncertainty and doubt.

And in return I will give you

A complex woman whole and free.

Who loves you unconditionally;

In return, I‘ll give you me.
