When the General Arrives
/This poem is inspired by Li Po's poems of war
————
Soldier footsteps cross the city,
invade the night.
A sidewalk strewn with broken glass
unable to reflect moonlight.
Sharp slivers of bad luck
break my heart open.
I lock my door
against the chill of a siege.
Panic punctures my sleep,
dread pierces my dreams.
