The Weight of Regrets...
/The Weight of Regrets: A Journey in California
Our ruins rest on a hillside
in Temecula, California.
Bruised by past failures,
our savory intentions emerged
when we broke down; we fell apart.
Our faults, one to another,
weigh heavily on the shoulders
of a pine Lake Chelan cabin—a place
I fear the most,
as infidelities wrapped me
in a fireproof blanket by a pool
of rippling regrets.
A fine-tuned way of motion rotated
my footing before I could hit
the ground running to run into whom?
Eloise, the object of my affection, that’s who.
I was tired of running.
Running from Eloise had worn me
down to nothing more than weatherproof
to withstand the sting of the California mudslides.
Eloise embraced me before we spoke,
and I no longer cared whether she stayed.
Eloise’s faith rested in my security.
