The Valentine Moon
/’Twas a cold winter’s night all day long and a song
gently wafted o’er snow so white
and at noon the full moon didn’t shine quite as bright
as it did in the mid of night,
but the sweet holiday had arrived and would stay
for another twelve hours or so
and the people bought candy for reasons quite randy
while waiting for—well, you know.
There’s no place like home and no reason to roam
from your castle upon the moor,
but for many sad reasons some folk in all seasons
will wander beyond their door,
but your own joys are full and you both feel the pull
of a love that has managed to last,
and now, in delight of (though sometimes in spite of)
your children, your love holds fast.
Though time’s running out, don’t panic and shout
lest your dread wake your kids in bed.
If your love’s not home soon, will you run out of moon
or of wine, both white and red?
No—be of good cheer and don’t give up in fear
that you love sings another’s tune,
or that flowers will fade if you haven’t been laid
’fore the rising of the moon.
