The Sin of Pride

A poem written in heroic couplets.

————

If the sin of pride is my condign curse;

then I own it, and I can do no worse.

If the world disdains me, not saying why;

then I can stand it, though I want to die.

Alone amongst men, now and for ever,

I lose hope (as bonds form, and then sever).

Just what can I do to make my sins right!?

Without grace, then I'm a child of the night.

I can't care less if others don't know it,

but hubris and pride make a good poet.

Though hard, being alone makes me stronger;

so God be damned if I hurt any longer!
