The Price

Tonight I want to fall asleep  

Without thinking about you 

You have been taking up

So much of my time

The price of falling in love

You have the power

To penetrate my thoughts

Night after night 

You come into my dreams

Uninvited

You are so far away

Yet I hear your sweet whispers

I see you with my eyes closed

Your perfume lingers in my space

I remember the softness of your lips

But tonight I hope

To have a restful slumber

Without your intrusion 

Without your entanglement 

So I won’t wake up in dismay
