The Christmas Dog
/A Yule log burns
in the fireplace.
A big dachshund
rests adjacent.
He resembles
the log himself.
The dog’s breed
is nice for children.
Children scheme
at their table. They
might dress him
in funny antlers,
with a red collar,
and take a photo
under mistletoe.
The dog won’t
bite or snarl.
Deck the halls
with dachshunds!
They are calm
and steady dogs.
They’re polite
with those who
dream up plans
in the fantasyland
of a kiddies’ table.
