The Carriage…

The Carriage: A Golden Shovel

I used the Golden Shovel poetic form to create a poem about pain and death inspired by Emily Dickinson.

————

Because I could not stop for Death—

He kindly stopped for me— —Emily Dickinson

Pain spilled forth onto the page because

remorse and hopelessness were all I

recognized, my gloomy bitterness could

turn my sensitive spirit rancid, I could not

embrace passage to the next realm, I must stop

fighting my enfeebled heart that yearns for

reasons to beat, make dark and deary Death

turn gentle and show me that He

can cross me during tender slumber and kindly

guide me through the threshold, I stopped

worrisome imaginings, there is no place for

negativity and fragile fear in me
