The Attic

Only when the poet resorted to beg alms singing folk songs

the public understood he was no more court poet

He remained a recluse in his room

and gave up poetry

He never allowed his family inside his room

Years passed his children grew up earned

he had no need to come out for alms either

He breathed his last in silence

His children took to agriculture

and after him no other poet came from his dynasty

His poems remained with the king’s court

and none was allowed recite them

One day his great grand son

entered the poet’s room

looking for his ball

He brought a ladder and went up into the attic

besides his ball he found many palm leaves

and displayed them to his dad and others

The poems were on the war crimes

and arrest and murder of rebels and tribes

The family discussed at length

and placed the poetry back into the attic
