A Short Roll on a Grassy Knoll

A supplement to the Warren Report of 1964, influenced by "On Top of Spaghetti" by WLS DJ Dick Biondi from 1961.

————

A doughnut, fresh-cooked, lost its hole,

when it fell out and started to roll

’cross the bakery floor

and then out the front door,

till it stopped on a short grassy knoll.

There it witnessed a story of crime.

Held as evidence for a long time,

but fingerprints picked off

when sugar was licked off

had turned it as mute as a mime.

It was placed in an evidence box

which was put in a cage with six locks.

Tucked away, deep inside,

it became petrified

and as verbal as living pet rocks.

Someday, may an arch’ologist

digging deep in the dirt, mud, and mist,

discover this torus

and then raise a chorus

of evidence that we’ve all missed.
