That One Post

A reflection on how it can feel to be overlooked in a digital world

————

One day she reaches out

a tweet — a ping — a post

a call into the void

from a solitary ghost

she is asking for support

in her unassuming way

grasping at the digital

to keep the dark at bay

few emotes will trickle in

but no one sees the pain

no one reaches back to her —

the darkness will remain

she doesn’t know quite how to say

how bleak her life’s become

she skirts the point and only hints

her mind has come undone

if you don’t mind, if you have time,

— I don’t mean to impose —

but I’d love to hear a friendly voice

if no one is opposed

she agonizes on each word

not wanting to seem needy

and even after posting it

she fears she’s being greedy

who is she to ask for help?

even if no one sees

who is she to clog the feed?

she’s nothing but a sleaze

so alone, she’s so alone

she feels it every day

crushed by this rejection,

she slowly fades away
