Please Be Aware

This poem is based on a true story. Her story brought many extreme pain and sadness.

————

I did not know Mrs. Scott very well.

I met her when I visited her son.

I saw her from afar, sullen and apart.

As time progressed, she tried to take her life.

I didn’t realize what was happening.

Rico told me she had tried numerous times.

He caught her with her head in the oven.

He pulled her to safety two or three times.

He was afraid to go to school and leave her alone.

Did the family get her counseling?

Dad needed to work and the boys had school.

Was there no one who could stay with her?

Finally, her clothes caught fire while she was cooking.

Unfortunately, she ran for the hose and was confused.

Regrettably, she died from her injuries.

Please be aware of those around you.

Please reach out if you see signs of self-injurious behavior.

Please help prevent suicide so that precious people may live.
