Grey Thoughts

Old Woods

The woods about my house have now become of elder age

Some spreading branches bear no leaves, the season turns its page

Hollow trunks and broken limbs, just shadows of their prime

Drum majors, frozen in one place, to lead the march of Time

Just like the trees, my aging form, succumbs to gravity

And thoughts of melding with the wood are heard like silent plea

But there beside an Oak’s shed bark, a sapling’s roots took hold

New leafy arms reached skyward underneath the sunlight, bold

This cycle of birth, growth and death, not new unto my mind

Yet thoughts of leaving temporal realm, unsettling I find

So rich and full of beauty when the mire of life’s ignored

I simply wish that when I leave, my memories will be stored

Within my soul which streaks into the starry-nighted space

To see beyond life’s curtain as Time’s minions call the race

Exploding into everything, yet becoming all and one

I’ll melt into the universe, my tree of life now done.
