My Big Day

The white lace gown

is Mother’s, altered.

It hides my waist

and secret child.

The hall is decked

with flower sprays.

Spry waiters bring

guests champagne.

Strings play waltzes.

My husband and I dance.

Wedding photos are

cropped and enhanced.

We start life together,

not caught off-balance.
