In light of recent and ongoing misogyny, this piece is a call to the resilience of women.

We arrived

when you

weren’t looking.

We’re like that,

you know.

It’s but one

of our myriad skills.

Thunder fills cavities

in our earthbound bones.

Ancestral magic shimmers

through our iron-clad blood.

Yet, you

dismiss us—

present-day Valkyries,

contemporary Sybils,

extant Gorgons—

unwisely

at your own

piteous peril.

We’ve no plan

to abandon

our steadfast mission.

Too long,

we’ve witnessed

your cruelty,

incompetence,

weakness.

We flee not

this trivial tempest,

having been born

of far fiercer forces.
