Locked In Silence

To my wife, for four years now you have been locked in, such a rare condition, such a cruel condition. I will never walk away, I will always stand by your side.

————

The house is too quiet, there is no constant chatter

All I can hear is our little girl sleeping soundly

Her cries tonight filled the house, broke my heart

All I can do is hug her, allow her to let her sorrow out

Our lives were perfect it seems now, how much we take for granted

I close my eyes, I can hear the machines keeping her alive

The noise is embedded in my brain, every function except her heart is attached to a machine

Her heart, so very big, always giving so much love

The biggest part reserved for me & our daughter

Overnight our lives went from perfect, to torn apart, torn as easily as paper

Gone is the happy, talkative, intelligent, funny woman I call wife, our daughter calls Mama

Replaced with a cruel twist of fate, her intelligent brain injured beyond repair

Now she looks with blank eyes, she sometimes smiles, sometimes cries

She never talks, she can’t, she never moves, her nerves are too damaged

She is locked in, her mind is active with no way to escape.
