In Our Veins
/Our world needs to promote peace and not violence.
————
I have always loved the crimson color.
The ruby tones highlighted my fair hair.
Even school colors were black and red.
In my town, we did not see bloodshed.
Doors were never locked during the day.
No one knew anyone in the gangs.
Yes, kids spilled blood when cut from play.
Very few battled on the playground.
Only during sports did folks see injuries.
During college years, I witnessed violence.
The television blared blood-filled news daily.
The sight of rage and gore horrified me.
My friends and I sought world peace.
We wore flowers in our hair, not guns in our pockets.
Let us keep blood in our veins where it belongs.
