In Memoriam

No matter the country, no matter the year, we hold them in our memory -- Lest We Forget

————

We called for them, they served for us

With a promise to fight, not just talk the talk

They fought from land, from air, and sea

It's now us who must take their hero's walk

Many stood on that fateful day Watching their loved ones walk away

And young wives cried in much dismay

Whilst many were left in the family way

There were no laughs or happy talk

Just days of fighting and miles to walk

Now, for their bravery, we burn a light

To remember them all, to recall their fight

On pillars depicting the Rising Sun

Plaques speak of how they stood as one

They fiercely fought far beyond sunset

Their sacrifice we honour, ... always see to it

We stand now in silence; rooted in place

Each with tears streaming down our face

Side by side, in companionship

Not one complaint from a single lip

It did not matter what their name

All were honored just the same

For their courage, bravery, tears, and sweat

All, revered, Lest We Forget
