Fragment 2019

I’m not a religious man. Not even a little.

The Bible of Christian love teaches

Hatred and violence,

The very thought of walking into

A church and facing all those sharp-dressed

Hypocrites makes

My stomach do somersaults

And prayers from the heart often

Go unanswered.

Strangely enough,

What prayer waits on my tongue?

It won’t be a prayer

Wasted on an absentee

Deity. It will, instead,

Be an appeal to fellow

Human beings and here’s how I’ll release it:

Judge me not

For my looks,

But for my deeds.

The colour I have

Is no crime.
