Don't Be A Snake

The snake brought sin into the garden, but we have carried the tradition on for millennia all the while demonizing him.

————

The snake in the garden abused God's character by telling a lie in His name. But why do we judge him so harshly when every day we do the same? We use God's name to swear to a promise we know may or may not be true. Or we manipulate the neighbor we're called to love by swearing to something untrue. Remember, God advised us not to swear to anything by oath? He knew we couldn't trust one another, and it was His way of protecting us both. So next time you think of the snake, and shake your head in scorn, take a minute to call to mind all of the ways you've been warned. Judge not lest you be judged, think twice before you swear to a lie. And before you accuse your brother of faulty vision, remove the plank from your own eye.
