Delta Home

Now the deep green cascade of summer

hangs from the edge of a blue silver dawn

in the still air ,trees whispering the name of a hurricane

the yard celebrates last nights rain

our brother hood of squirrels have come to play

big old oaks reaching over

hold the shade at noon

they promise to stand in the storm

still just a whisper in africa

another day brings a sweet heat

distilling thinking into dreams

the evening will be the zephyr

south west wind

kiss of salt from the Gulf

cold beer on ice

with the sundown setting orange fire to the spanish moss

the lights of the city across the bay, twinkle in the twilight

deep in the night the stars answer

the pirate poet sleeps

now dreaming of his love in sweet surrender
