Defining Humanity

The sea is dangerous

Yet we sail

The mountain, treacherous

Yet we climb

The night, dark

Yet we endure ‘til dawn

Whatever the challenge

Regardless how beaten, bruised, exhausted

We rise to meet it

Whatever the price

Regardless the pain, suffering, sacrifice

We pay it

For the one, defining human characteristic

Shared by us all

Is hope:

The belief that regardless how dire our circumstance

We shall overcome it

And go on
