(Whispers)

(Writing within parentheses guards your secrets.)

When using social media

sometimes your thoughts will wander;

your mind’s encyclopedia

may take you way out yonder,

and if a comment might not please—

some multiple entender

or faux pas puts folks ill-at-ease,

oft’ leaving them less fonder—

surround words with parentheses;

i.e., e.g., consider these:

(The words you tuck away in here

are whispers hidden from their ear:

those thoughts you’d like to make more clear

by stripping them of sweet veneer;

a snark remark which won’t endear;

the thoughts which you won’t say in fear

of terminating your career—

like tell the boss to kiss your rear

or laughingly say, “Hold my beer!”).

Sweet thoughts like these you shouldn’t squander

nor display for all to ponder.
