“What Is Beauty?...”
/A sonnet that asks what is beauty, and offers an answer in response.
————
What is Beauty? Is it Truth? Is it Art?
Or the mean of the Golden Ratio?
Whatsoe'er beauty is, it does not show
in the vain and ugly, but in the heart
of them where love and charity take part;
it manifests in the wise, who all know
that hatred's a sin we must overthrow
(to supersede with the reason of Descartes).
O lo!...beauty's what's perceived in thine eyes,
where the gleams of compassion and brilliance
mingle, in proportions none can surmise;
beauty's thy lips, whence comes the eloquence
of a Poet, who, like a lark at sunrise,
tunes lines rivaled only by thine elegance.
