Time Turnabout
/Many times throughout our lives we do not understand the importance of time with others.
————
When I was a child, I was given weekly chores.
Since Dad was not around; Mom nagged us.
I would protest frequently: “I don’t have the time.”
When I attended college, my rooms were tiny.
Household chores changed to hours of study.
If my surroundings were messy, I’d say: “I don’t have the time.”
When three children were underfoot, there were daily tasks.
I would spend hours sorting, cleaning, and cooking.
If friends asked to go out, I’d reply: “I don’t have the time.”
When our careers took off, we were gone twelve hours per day.
Time to relax at home and make a simple meal was paramount.
Going out for a nice meal was met with: “I’m tired and not this time.”
When we finally retired, we could make our own schedules.
We wanted to spend time with our family and close friends.
Unfortunately, our loved ones often replied: “We don’t have the time.”
