Time Of Death

his body stopped working

the mind went blank

the soul – if he had one –

is off to Heaven or Hell

I didn't know him, so

I don't know which

we tried to save him

but the heart stopped beating

blood stopped flowing

putrefaction set in

relatives came in and cried

then we pulled off

masks and gloves, and

moved on to the next one
