The Restless Mind

Our mind is like a bird 

with restless wings 

ready to take flight

at the slightest distraction        


Our senses keep feeding it

with messages received

pleasant or irritating 

they all pull us away  

from the now and here,

so our mind wanders endlessly


Yet we can call 

our concentration back 

and gently close the door

settle in stillness

and with yoga breathing

soft and steady

simply be aware 

of our surroundings

without judgement

thus will our mindfulness

be renewed
