The MotherHood

I wrote this piece when I saw by best friend struggling with her pregnancy, and post delivery congnitive challenges. She was juggling with her ideantiy crisis, new born toddleer, her completely imbalanced work-life balance. It made me realise why is no one talking about this phase a woman goes through as well?

Posted an exhausted New Mother

attached a photograph with a small smile

at 3 am while fighting to keep her eyes open

to entertain her fully awoken toddler.

No routine or perhaps life

exhausted mind and almost numb mind

lack of sleep for months in a row

unbalanced physiology and psychology with

severe hormonal fluctuations since conceiving,

she has been on the edge yet has centred

her universe around the infant.

Becoming a mother could be a

blessing but the belittling and overlooking

terrible changes a woman braves through,

must be, at least, acknowledged and talked about,

too, that, my dear, will then become the idea

of the ‘(w)hol(ly) motherhood’.
