The Mortal Road

We all hope to travel along life's way

guarding our health with purpose and intent

yet none of us is destined here to stay

The will to live is with us every day

a primal gift that nature kindly lent

Like every creature, striving through the fray

we battle on with strong courage unbent

yet none of us is destined here to stay

Though science seeks to keep death far away

our mortal code bears nature's testament

we all hope to travel along life's way

Not rank nor wealth can make our death delay

for king and beggar share the same event

yet none of us is destined here to stay

So let us treasure every passing day

and greet life's end with peace and content
