The Final Passage
/Mortality is more than mere statistics
when illness takes a devastating dive
and the failing body
reveals the fragile nature of life
Pain and suffering increase
as death is drawing near
no matter how fiercely we fight
eventually we must surrender
The unknown that lies beyond death
darkens our thoughts,
separation from our loved ones
fills our heart with sorrow
We question the Creator’s design
that tells us to endure this ordeal
though we long for a gentler way
for the soul to leave the mortal body
