The Ever Presence

A poems reflection of one

————

I’m begging you please, just tell me the truth.

It’s all that my heart ever wanted from you...

I don’t ask for much, in this jungle called life but,

the one thing I want most, I simply can’t find.

So I seek within mirrored reflections,

for the person inside but there’s someone behind,

with a look in his eyes that tells me he’s drowning,

in waters so rough...if you look there you’ll find him.

So I searched seething shorelines and what would I find,

but pages that someone left scattered behind,

hid behind rocks, some blown under trees,

some washed up by waves and all placed there for me?

The paper was old but the written was clear,

and I’m certain the red stain was pains lonesome sigh,

each curve congealed as it flowed past the white,

...just scanning these words made me break down and cry.

Joined letters, showed memories someone left behind,

so I followed the lines scribing words past my tears,

to a lady, was dying, alone in a tower,

she’d called and cried out, but nobody did hear.

An’ did, many years pass with no call from fair maiden,

barred window that trapped her, and door locked behind.

But all that remained was a paper I found,

with four words that read, “you killed me man kind...”
