The Devil In Congress…

The Devil in Congress: A Poetic Reflection

Thick, dark clouds funnel,

layered like an onion to peel,

fueling eyes, watering

with displeasure from heaven’s gates—

spit a thousand tiny, spiteful tears

which hung above Capitol Hill.

Congress closed the People’s House.

But men with thick pockets wandered

the halls like the devil slipping

through a revolving door

to see whom he might devour,

only if allowed, like Job,

shopping for willing participants

in money laundering schemes.

Big business has business,

lobbing obedient representatives.

Naïve to the core;

they think they’re friends,

as billionaires laugh behind their backs

as do representatives who laugh at our vote

for their seats to secure ill-gotten gains.

The stock market ripples the rich,

but for some, groceries have become

a bargain.

Dinner or pills?

Who’s to decide?

The people you elected, silly.

Our parade downpours acid pain,

but they tell you everything is fine.

Trust the plan,

easy to say when traded as an insider

and became a millionaire.

The House closed down over a feud

over Democrats demanding healthcare

subsidies for the Affordable Care Act,

but you blame the party seeking to help

you, as your representatives, stab you in the back

like the devil, seeking whom he shall devour.
